 icon chua, at the age of 21, started his passion for photography in 2008 when he was able to get hold of the digital camera of tadman - msuiit's official yearbook. with no solid background in photography, he began his journey by taking street photos, doing one-man photowalks, around the city of iligan. in november of the same year, he acquired his first digital SLR when his mother saw his potential and gave him a nikon d40 as an early christmas-birthday-graduation gift.
in 2009, through his and a formal teacher's initiative, clique - the msuiit photography club - was formed. the group, through his leadership as founding president, was able to hold two photo exhibits, conduct one basic photography workshop, and host several iligan- and northern mindanao-wide photo contests along with the hulagway photographic society of iligan. the group is now one of the most active youth photography clubs in iligan city.
icon, as his friends call him, specializes in glamour photography and photojournalism. and just after a year and a half in digital photography, he has won 1st and 2nd places in the 2009 diyandi festival photography competition, procession category and has ranked 4th in the overall best photographer in the same competition. his photos of kasadya street dancing festival were published and circulated nationwide in the petronas 2010 calendar. he is also the unofficial photographer of the integrated performing arts guild, the resident theatre company of msu-iit, and had his photos published in their website, in humanities books for the institute, and in national newspapers.
after graduating from college with his 2nd degree at the age of 23, he pursues his passion for photography in davao city where he formally resides, hoping to inspire more people, especially the youth, to love photography and make it not just a hobby, but more of a passion.
